The Augustine Way

The Augustine Way helps participants to break free of unhealthy sexual habits and find new freedom in Christ. Developed in a seminary setting, and now redesigned for widespread use, the program uses an innovative blend of spirituality and psychology to disrupt ingrained habits and help participants establish long-term patterns of chastity.

Seminary Formation and Transitory Same-Sex Attraction: A Proposal

Everyone in seminary work is aware of the Vatican’s “Instruction Concerning the Criteria for the Discernment of Vocations with regard to Persons with Homosexual Tendencies in view of their Admission to the Seminary and to Holy Orders”.  As a result, the implementation of its directives has been inconsistent.

This work contains a proposal for how to understand the key terms of the Instruction – transitory, deep-seated, and overcome – and how to implement its directives in a seminary’s policies and practices.  The proposal is based on our own experiences, which is both its strength and its limitation. We invite others into conversation based on their experiences, policies, and practices.
