CSC 511 Graduate Research and Writing Required Theology 1

An introduction to the tools, both traditional and electronic, and methods of graduate research. Students have access to a writing center that will assist them in research and composition skills throughout their course of studies. Envisioned outcomes: a familiarity with the use of the print and electronic library resources; an inventory and, if necessary, an improvement of personal study habits, time management, and reading and writing skills; an awareness of the transactional nature of writing. Format: lecture and interactive exercise. Mahfood; one semester hour. 

CSC 531 Summative Evaluation Seminar I Required Theology III

The Summative Evaluation Seminar 1 is designed to assist students in the compilation of a bibliography for their master’s theses or comprehensive exam questions in partial fulfillment of the ordination requirement. The specific focus of the course will be on the collection of quotes relevant to the point or purpose of the project and the development of a comprehensive outline and introductory chapter. Envisioned Outcomes: an ability to develop a cohesive thesis statement or examination questions, an understanding of the outlining process, an ability to synthesize and collate significant quotations from appropriate sources to support the thesis or examination questions. Format: lecture and guided work. Mahfood, one semester hour.

CSC 532 Summative Evaluation Seminar II Required Theology IV

The Summative Evaluation Seminar 2 (spring semester, 1 credit) is designed to assist students in the preparation of a first draft of their master’s theses or comprehensive exam answers in partial fulfillment of the ordination requirement. The specific focus of the course will be on the integration of quotes relevant to the ideas each is intended to support and the completion of a first draft of the entire project. Envisioned outcomes: a development of the thesis paper or examination questions, a completion of the thesis or examination questions by the semester’s end. Format: guided study.
